Belgian Royal Institute for Natural Sciences, Gulledelle, 100 B-1200 Brussels, Belgium Type of authority: NGO established by 'aquatic field' related Belgian Universities and research laboratories. Additional members of the authority are two operators of national and regional research vessels and a representative of the Belgian Navy. The working group has been created at the Belgian Federal level under the Federal Public Service Belgian science policy.
Additional informations: The Belspo Working Group on Scientific Diving (BWGSD) was established in February 2009. The working group was created at the level of the Federal Public Service Science Policy (BELSPO). Inside the working group, each institution has one representative. Today the group meet one or two times a year and is constituted of 13 members.
|National certification organisation / authority for scientific diving:||BWGSD organises training at the two levels BSD (Belgian scientific diver) and ABSD (advanced Belgian scientific diver) level. BSD and ABSD are fully equivalent to respectively ESD & AESD. BELSPO, a Belgian Member Organisation of the European Marine Board, have issued the first Advanced Scientific Diver certificate (AESD) in Belgium.
In February 2013 there was a significant advancement as ESD/AESD qualifications were accepted as diving professional competency as defined by Belgian law (RD 23/12/2003 mod. 25/04/2007).
In June 2013 BELSPO, a Belgian Member Organisation of the European Marine Board, issued the first Advanced Scientific Diver certificate (AESD) in Belgium.
